Compared to the first book in the series, this one is not great. Most of this book feels, and reads like filler. "Chief shot this, chief shot that in a specific way".
Of course it's based on the game, but it could have been a lot better. It does get into some aspects that the game doesn't, but it doesn't lean into this nearly enough.
If you played Halo CE, you can just skip this book and not miss out on anything important.
