Dear Carson,
We had a good run, but I need to tell you it's over. I've had my doubts ever since book two, but then you showed some promise again in book three, so I hung in there, but you have failed to live up to your potential. I'm tired of pretending, so I am setting you free to find someone who will appreciate you the way you are.
All the best,
Myrna

This was my first book by this author and I wasn't disappointed. Fast paced, exciting, only thing I didn't like was the ending. Will definitely be checking out the other books in the series.

Carson Ryder is a detective in Mobile, Alabama. Only a handful of people know that Carson's brother is Jeremy Ridgecliffe a psychopath currently residing at the Alabama Institute of Aberrational Behaviour for killing their father and five women. Now Carson has been called to consult on a case in New York - the victim is an old friend Doctor Evangeline Prowse, the director of the Institute and she travelled to New York with Jeremy. Was she coerced by Jeremy to help him escape or was there another reason? Then another two bodies are found and a huge manhunt is launched for Jeremy but Carson can't tell them the truth about their relationship. Great read - couldn't put it down. Will look for more from this series now.

I always enjoy Kerley's books, and this was no exception. Detective Carson Ryder is called from Alabama to New York City after a woman is found murdered and an "in case of emergency" video urges them to contact Carson. Carson's brother is a serial killer who murdered four women before being caught and imprisoned. Now he's escaped and it's up to Carson and the NYPD to find him. I really enjoyed this book. Jeremy is a fascinating character, and we learn quite a bit more about him in this book. Carson is a sympathetic and likeable character torn between his gratitude to his brother and his desire to be free of him.

This book was a welcomed edition to the Carson Ryder series. It certainly added information to the back story of Ryder and his brother Jeremy. The book further developed Vangie Prowse. In the book Kerley moved the action to New York, where Ryder is called in to investigate the death of Prowse. The primary suspect is Jeremy.

The book was actioned packed and the characters fully developed.

I thought this book offered a strong plotline but also a development of the main character/s of the series. I read the book in a day because I just couldn't put it down, not only for the whodunnit aspect but also for the connection between Carson Ryder and his brother Jeremy. I love that Ryder is distrubed and disgusted by his brother but at the same time he protects him. There were a number of plot twists which kept me guessing as to the outcome and left me wanting to get back to the book ASAP.
