school book. not super interested now that school is over tbh
informative
reflective
slow-paced
Sir Ken Robinson has the right theories, for sure. But as an educator, I found myself saying, "Yes, and..." a lot. Theories of creativity are all well and good. Yes, our schools and attitudes towards schools need to change. So how do we start from the bottom up, in each classroom unit? That question is never answered, and it is to the book's practical detriment.
No new ground, at least as I can see, from the Element.
This was the textbook for a research class I'm taking, but I find myself recommending it to so many people. It really is about learning to be creative and how important creativity is in all aspects of business and society.
I have seen Sir Ken Robinson in person on two occasions, have watched a number of videos and have read "The Element". I am a fan and this did not disappoint. It really is for educators and those looking to create some positive, creative change in their organizations. It is a good examination of our current education system and economy as well.
There is a lot of good information in this book surrounded by large amounts of boredom. A struggle to read.
Out of Our Minds unfortunately didn't really grab my attention. It's probably the reason it took me so long to finish. I found the history of how our education started to favor math and science over creative studies to be interesting. And, while the final chapters deal with some of the creative ways in which alternative schools and educators are trying to instill creativity in the current generation of youth, I found it to be quite short and not all that informative.
Really enjoyed this one. Had a lot to say about creativity in an educational setting but it also expanded out in to other sectors as well.
