I love Inferno, was mildly interested in Purgatorio, and didn't read Paradiso.
Note to self, re: translation shopping:
Pinsky (recommended by Sean, terse, grim, modern)
Longfellow (mentioned in lecture by Prof. Kennedy as one of the best translations, flowery & dense)
Sayers (recommended by Prof. Stewart, pub. by Penguin)
Singleton (recommended by Prof. Stewart as seminal scholarly translation)

I know this is a classic, but I think that to read this you'll need to analyse this with a whole host of other source material because the symbolism is no longer part of modern language. As such, I'm never going to read it. Forced my way through a quarter before I reached that conclusion.

Rating the reading experience here, not the unquestionable significance of this book both literary and historical.
A classic, but Purgatorio and Paradiso do not hold up to Inferno.
Requires a lot of focus and knowledge of the historical figures mentioned to be anything approaching comprehensible. Personally, I think Overly Sarcastic Productions' video series of it on YouTube does a better job of getting the ideas across while making sense and even being entertaining to a modern reader with a casual interest.
