Two interesting stories, set in the same space but 150 years apart in time. We are able to see how much things have changed, and the same time seeing how many things have not changed a bit. Many of the characters are straight out of history, tied together with some glue of Ms. Kingsolver's clever and brilliant imagination. Many issues are touched upon, between contrasting philosophies and generations. Through the interaction of people, events and circumstances, we see bridges built and homes deconstructed to reveal truth in a clearer light. Nice story(ies) :)

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Barbara Kingsolver's writing style! Her voice, syntax, and prose are distinct despite switching back and forth between time periods - seriously, I kept wanting to write down quotes. The story itself follows two families living in the same house separated by almost 200 years. The best part? I got to learn more about the Charles Darwin-induced, science backlash of the late 1800's AND I got to be introduced to Mary Treat. Treat was one of Darwin's only woman correspondent and her contributions to both botany and entomology were extensive

Some of the historical chapters are a little slow, but it all comes together in the end. Wonderful writing as always from Kingsolver.
