very cute... I am ALWAYS a sucker for
the crotchety older man gets a bubbly
child dumped into his life and then
accidentally starts loving and caring
about them (goodnight Mr Tom, the girl from the other side, etc)

I think I started reading it a few years ago but only to the first few chaps.
Recently it was made into a Netflix series or Movie so I was intrigued to see what all the hype was about.

So this one was a fun and simple read.
Enjoyed it. however, it fell short of being fresh new and bringing something different. It was a typical hero-villain, good-evil story.

4.5 stars. The only issue I had was in this sort of whimsical fun story, Nimona actually killed people. That aspect took away from the character for me. But I loved it!

On rare occasion, I run across books that I want to buy 5-10 copies of so that I can distribute them to friends and try, very hard, not to sound like a raving lunatic when I say “STOP EVERYTHING YOU ARE DOING YOU MUST READ THIS RIGHT NOW!”

This is one of those books.

I’d seen it everywhere. In my bookstore. In my comic shop. Being raved about online. Being nominated for what felt like All The Things. And I always overlooked it. I’m not sure why, but despite seeming like it was in my vision all the time, it never struck me as something I needed to pick up.

I wish I had read this book, and fallen in love with it, much sooner. I am so glad I found it.

To be fair, it gets off to a bit of a jerky start. The webcomic format is apparent in its opening pages, with slightly erratic storytelling and very quick chapters. But it finds its footing quickly and takes you for quite a ride in a world where the villains might actually be the heroes, the heroes aren’t quite as heroic as they might wish to be, and where love and friendship and family save the day.

Nimona is one of those rare stories that hit me right in the heart. Quite a few times. It is silly and sentimental and serious and, at all times, wonderful. It’s something you can enjoy regardless of your age, and will delight younger and older audiences alike.

Read Nimona. Stop what you are doing and read it right now.
