Liked it, didn't love it. Some people say it gets better but I'm not committed to the next book in the series yet. Good action and the plot was built in a way that wasn't confusing. A few shocking moments , that's for sure. A good read, just on the fence about continuing. If the books were free I would definitely go for it, but because I have to fork out my own coin, I may have to think on it.

What in the fuck just happened??? What was that ending??? How what even owuchidofirneiowkejfhfhrhrhr
How am I supposed to process this?????
More coherent review to come
------------
The epilogue made me lose all reason and give this 5 stars immediately, but after thinking about it there actually are some flaws and a little more than I can just ignore.
But before getting into that, this was such a good book! The story proceeded at a breakneck pace (how in the hell did we get a in chapter !?). The story subverted my expectations at every turn, and all of the twists were great. I had no idea who to trust at any point in this book (and still don't!) and just accumulated more and more questions as I read more, but I'm very excited to have this whole mystery untangled over the series! I absolutely love Caeden's arc (and that ending AAA I still can't process that ). I'm really looking forward to his role in the next books.
Major Stormlight Archive vibes but that's a big plus for me :)
Cons:
- The dialogue frequently reads like characters having therapy sessions with each other lol
- People are way too trusting and incautious for the level of deception that goes on
- The characterizations are a bit bland, especially Davian's
- A lot more telling than showing when it comes to character relationships
- All women don't have to be beautiful and it's a bit annoying when they are
- The magic is pretty nebulous and messy, especially compared to [b:The Will of the Many|58416952|The Will of the Many (Hierarchy, #1)|James Islington|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1670363463l/58416952._SX50_.jpg|91649761], but this may be solved in later books as we get more information. I didn't mind this that much throughout the book because the magic used to solve problems does have rules so it isn't a catch-all solution to everything (looking at you, siden)
- The ending felt a bit... not that impactful, as we got a multitude of scenes that came together to make the climax rather than having one cohesive bit. It was still good, but did not hold up to the hype built by the rest of the book. This might be my brain's fault for expecting a Sanderlanche even though it's not a Sanderson book (I'm sorryyy it really reads like one!). Also the epilogue more than made up for this.

You know when there's like a thousand plot points and capitalized names and so many things that seem confusing and the then final plot twist hits and you feel like you have to re-read the whole book immediately? This is it.
The ability to seach a word in digital books with the digital edition was my savior because so many capitalized words kept dropping until like page 680 and I couldn't keep track.
I'm so glad The Will of the Many has a characters sheet and a glossary, that would've been really useful here!!
Beyond that tho, I really loved the characters, the world, and the magic system. It was a long read but I never felt bored or like I'd had too much of it, and I'm excited to read the rest of the trilogy
