I’m not really sure where I lie with this one I think 300 pages in is where it picked up for me up until the 600 page mark. This is my first really high fantasy so obviously only getting used to the genre as real but that aside I enjoyed the story the magic system is well developed and pretty easy to understand. It honestly took me a while to understand or visual the world so I guess maybe lacked in world building for me also in emotional impact with the characters I didn’t feel all that connected to them tbh. There was probably two big reveals that contributed to the plot in the whole book and it’s a big book. I’m also still left wholly confused. I guess with high fantasy there are a lot of characters and names and things to remember but there were times when I didn’t remember who the characters were. There was also so much left unsaid and unexplained. Either way I did enjoy reading it and I want to continue but still very confused and hope things are more clear in the next book

DNF at 10%. I've never been so bored reading the opening of a book in my entire life. Info dump every other paragraph, boring rote male protagonist I've read a in a million other fantasy stories, 'as you know' dialogue which is super on the nose...not my cup of tea.
Beetje vaag soms, niet echte hype. Wel goeie set up voor 2de boek.
This was fine, but a bit disappointing. The world and magic is interesting enough, if very basic for a fantasy world. The mysteries and twists and turns are fun, and largely what kept me going throughout the book. It is fast-paced and there are no real dull moments even if the book is at points slightly longer than it needs to be, so I did enjoy my time. But,
The characters are really boring. They all seem like exactly the same person, and I just could not get invested at all. Everyone is also super nice and understanding to each other in this world, which is fine, but it just seemed to much to be realistic in the world that was described. It's like a bunch of ordinary people from our world are placed into this fantasy setting.
The writing is really boring. That might not be an issue to everyone, but I really appreciate it if a book has good prose. This book takes more of a Brandon Sanderson approach of a very straightforward writing style, letting the plot do the work. This is fine, but not quite my style (though I love Brandon Sanderson).
And a smaller issue, the plot was quite often moved forward by people eaves-dropping. This often feels like a lazy and unrealistic way to convey new information to the reader, and it really happened quite a few times here, not my favourite.
In the end the book is fine and enjoyable enough, but I have too many issues with it to give more than 3 stars (which is still good!). I don't think I will be reading the sequels.

Un primo libro abbastanza promettente, riesce ad essere intrigante e coinvolgente nonostante i molti difetti. Un po' confusianario e difficile da seguire, sia per quanto riguarda il worldbuilding che per la storia. I personaggi sono un po' piatti, ma sempre coerenti.
