I enjoyed this book a lot! I had this book on my shelf before I read the will of the the many. After devouring The Will of The Many I was eager to read more of his books.

I did enjoy the complexities of the main and even side characters. Islington really did a good job making everyone complex even those we believe to be the heroes.

I am very curious as to what role our three friends and their acquaintances will play in the overall plot.

The magic system and the world seems very complex. I think as we follow Caeden and Davian journey we will then understand the past/background of the world more. However, as the introduction to the world and series I was hoping Book 1 would’ve flushed or explained those things better.

All that being said, I really enjoyed reading this book. Going through the ups and downs with the characters. I can’t wait to continue following Caeden and Davian’s journey and to see how it all plays out.

It felt like I was re-reading a favourite book I’d forgotten about. It felt so familiar, you can tell where James takes inspiration from other fantasy epics.
It still felt original and was pretty fast-paced for its length. There wasn’t a single boring chapter.
I really enjoyed it and will continue with the series.

Actually have no idea if I finished this book. unremarkable I guess.

It was a fast paced read with a complex story but also a tad too simply written at parts. A glossary of terms/characters would have gone a long way, but I enjoyed the story and will most likely read book 2!
