I loved the nostalgic epic fantasy vibes this book had, which backed up the "it's if Wheel of Time had good pacing" recommendations. But the characters were flat aside from Caeden, which made the clearly well-plotted story structure feel hollow. There is clearly so much time and ink spilled on setting up plot stuff for the next two books and so little on defining our character relationships. 

The world history is very well thought-out, but the culture and texture of the world itself is bland. The prose is passable at best and distractingly bad at worst. It's Christian in the most boring ways possible and its women are woefully underserved by the narrative. 

Pass on the rest of these.

It’s was fine good premise. I just got bored and asked myself why I was still listening to the audio book as I tuned it out constantly.
