The characters just didn't work for me. I think if I was in a better reading mood I would've had more patience and finished the book. There's clearly an intricate plot here that I would love to delve into. However, I'm getting grim dark vibes and without really strong character work, that has always been a hard sell for my tastes. If I'm blown away by the Hierarchy series (like the rest of the internet is) then I may return and give this one another shot.

I’ve been trying to get hooked into adult fantasy and this book finally did it for me!

I also think perhaps I should stick to reading physical books when they’re fantasy instead of audiobook or Kindle.
