I really enjoyed the beginning of this book, and the author had a very intriguing idea, but it got boring and lost my interest by the second part (year 2) of the book. I did finish the book in hopes it would get exciting, but unfortunately, it didn't.

the only thing this book did for me was the atmosphere. I need to be more selective with dark academia

A reluctant 2.75. Sent me into a reading slump because of a draggggged on middle but the ending was good.

3.5!

While this story wasn't exactly what I was expecting, it was still great in a different direction. The themes and the plot remind me super strongly of "Never Let Me Go" but in a way that I genuinely enjoyed more. If you liked that book, you'll really like "Catherine House!"

The writing style was also very endearing to me because I found it somehow both stream of consciousness and precise. The world through Ines' eyes is very blunt, omits the dirty details, but also very warm at times, and I thought that some of the stop-and-start sentences really helped give her a Voice.

Speaking of Ines, while she is implied to be a bit of an unreliable narrator, the reader never truly finds out all the things that have happened to her before Catherine House, but I guess that's also folded into the point — at Catherine House everyone is supposed to be "remade" right? I love the way she grows into someone passively living life to taking her own by the reins and the parts toward the end made my heart absolutely break for her. No spoilers, but I really liked Baby too : -(

Ultimately, while it wasn't quite the spooky dark academia I expected, it fell into a more dystopian slow burn nightmare that I appreciated because it was so different than my expectations!!

Wow this one was boring! The main character was just lazy and didn't do anything, she was so passive that I didn't enjoy following her story at all. All the students seems really immature, it read like they were all in high school. I pushed through because some reviews said that the ending was crazy, but it was really anticlimactic.
The prose also sounded very pretentious, as if the author didn't care so much about the plot as about how  "pretty" her sentences seemed.

I don't know how it is possible to so much like this world and being invested in it all the way, but don't care at all about characters. I got to love the main character in the last 2 chapters, which is wild. But the rest? Nah. This costs a star of the rating.

But honestly this book was amazing. I love that nog all the mysteries are explained, even though normally i hate that.

But what the hell was this end?
