Better than book 1 of the Peacekeeper series (but still not as good as Valor). While it was a little bit drawn out and I wanted more of Torin being awesome at least this one wsn’t boring. Unfortunately there were so many new characters and species I couldn’t keep them all straight. The other downside of this plethora of new characters was that we don’t get to spend enough time with Strike Team Alpha. I wanted more Torin, Craig, Mashona, Ressk, Werst & Alambie and less random characters whose name and species a I cannot remember now, 2 days after finishing the book. If I didn’t already know them from the Valor series I would have know idea who the supposed heros of the book actually were. They just seem so much less thatn they were, in Valor, especially Torin and that makes me sad and nostalgic.

Mini-Review:

I'm Team Torin + Crew all the way! The focus of the plot for this book was all over the place. Too many elements & things happening at the same time. At this point, I don't think there needs to be a bunch of reminders that Torin used to be in the military or that there's a legitimate reason to be creeped out by plastic. The nuggets of info that I really honed onto were sparse ripples in the vast ocean of everyone is on the edge of war--again.

I like how normal the different species have become to me over the duration of the books in this series. They're like family now. Looking forward to the last book of the series. To make sure I really appreciate it, I'm going to wait a while before gobbling it up.

Needed some editing and was a bit hard to follow with the larger team but still good Sci Fi

got a bit bogged down in the forest, that’s the thing with short scenes switching from place to place. i finish one and then i don’t really want to read the next one as it is somewhere else and i was just invested in where i was! it’s a style of writing that didn’t bother me later, but early on i really didn’t want to be reading about the bad guys. they were bad. by the end of the book i was gagging for more and i’ve finished the day before part three, the final instalment comes out.

Another fine visit to the universe of the Krai, Niln, Taykan, and all the rest of the Confederation member species. I adored Tanya Huff's Confederation Marines novels, but somehow missed the release of the first book in this follow-up set. The story filled in enough details to avoid confusion, but I've picked up An Ancient Peace anyway...so I can read it after I re-read the first five Confederation books. Because Torin Kerr is one of my all-time favorite characters in or out of uniform, and the big picture story just keeps getting more interesting.

When mercenaries take a bunch of scientists hostage on a remote world, and demand the science types find them a possibly mythical ancient weapon they believe is on the planet, Strike Team Alpha - along with some unusual allies - are sent to resolve the issue.

This is a rock solid SF adventure yarn.

Have I mentioned, recently, how much I love space marines?
