This book was absolutely incredible. It is one of my favorite books I've read this year, and it hit in so many places I didn't realize it was going to. The main character Corinne, was one of my most relatable characters in a while because of her struggles to come to terms with her bisexuality. A lot of the situations she found herself in in terms of trying to figure out if/when/how to come out and who to come out to and all of that were very relatable. Of course, this book also centers around the death of her girlfriend, and although I can't relate to that aspect and layer to what she was going through, she still said a lot of things and did a lot of things that felt to me like things that I have done or would do. Her grief was portrayed in a way that I thought was brilliant. Corinne was messy and aching in ways that so very few people can understand, and it was portrayed perfectly. The relationship and feelings that developed between her and Elissa were done very well and handled in a great way, especially in how it ended. I think the same can be said for how she interacted with her girlfriend, Maggie's brother. However, my favorite part of this book was the development of her friendships throughout the story. As someone who does struggle with my sexuality when it comes to friends and worrying about their reactions, it felt really good to watch her take that journey. It just felt so similar to the one I took and am still taking. There were so many scenes that made me cry, and I couldn't have asked for a more healing reading experience. I really enjoyed this book, and would highly recommend it to anyone who would not be triggered by the subject matter. Seriously, if you aren't triggered by the subject matter, you really should read this book. It has a lot to offer in terms of feeling seen by people who relate to Corinne in any way, and has a lot to teach and show those who might not find her as relatable.

Definitely not an easy read, especially for emotional people like me but it was definitely unlike anything I've read before.

I'm not one to really criticise a book just because I didn't like it but I have a lot to say about this one.

The plot was very touching and I loved the time jumps. But there was too much focus on coming out for me, which is absolutely a matter of personal preference so don't let it hold y'all back from reading this book.
I do remember being worried about having to come out and the anxiety it gave me to even think about it so it's not that I don't understand, but now I just see it differently. I guess maybe I just expected the story to be more about Corinne and Maggie's relationship than about Corinne 's coming out journey. Regardless, I fully understand why she didn't want to come out when she was with Maggie, or with Elissa for that matter, and giving her an ultimatum was a real bad move imo.

I guess I just didn't relate too much to the main character's struggles with coming out since I view it differently from her. I don't like it when coming out is presented as something that has to be done. Some people don't want to come out and it's absolutely fine, you don't have to tell people "I'm xy" if you don't want to, just going about your life and letting people figure things out for themselves can be a completely viable option too.

The relevan characters that knew Maggie were unreasonably bitchy with eachother for no reason and I feel like that was such an unhealthy representation of grief. I understand that they were all devastated but treating others like shit and being absolutely selfish wasn't gonna solve their problems, I would've preferred if at least one of them would've had a somewhat different coping style because this whole "She died so I get to be a dick" thing didn't really do it for me.

This book handles grief in one of its truest and messiest forms and does it well. The entire ensemble cast of characters brought an important element to the story in the way we see how Corrine’s grief impacts each of their relationships with her as well as their ability to decentralize Corrine as the the only one who is grieving Maggie. This story tore my heart in two as books often do when elements hit closer to home than I expected them to and I found myself writing a lot more personal annotations than I normally do when reading this. The human connection the author provides between the character and the reader is one of the best things about this book and has sealed it in my mind as something the definitely is going to be reread in my future.

Audiobook - 4 hours 18 minutes - This book was sort of tedious to read - the same points kept being brought up over and over again. This makes sense in a way - grief is cyclical and lasts a long time, so I understand the writing reflects this, but it did make it repetitive and slightly boring purely from a reader's perspective. However, some parts of this book were enjoyable - I enjoyed seeing the main character find more self-confidence and a sense of identity outside of her relationship. I'm not sure if this was intentional but the relationship between Corinne and Maggie seemed a bit toxic, involving pressure to out their LGBT relationship, especially when Corinne wasn't out. This was referred to as bad a little, but this view went unchallenged for a lot of the book if I am interpreting it correctly, which doesn't sit entirely right with me.
