This is a perfect book.

Nope, I'm not being hyperbolic or dramatic. I listened to the audiobook, performed by Bahni Turpin and that made it even more perfect.

The Hate U Give should be required reading for just about everyone, as it's so intensely relevant to what we see sprawled across the media every day. This novel can't be written off as #BlackLivesMatter book, so if you see someone trying to spin that nonsense tell them to quit it. This is the story of a young girl caught up in the all too familiar story of unchecked police power.

If you have the chance, listen to the audiobook version as the narration was 100% amazing. She brought all of the characters to life in a way that I felt so connected to Starr and her family that when they were in her house talking, I felt like I was part of the conversation.

I loved this. Read it. Just do it.

This book should be required at every school, book club and as a Christmas gift. Incredible story, POWERFUL writing, flawless delivery. I’ll be telling everyone about this.
dark emotional hopeful reflective

I think my expectations were just too high. It was timely but not particularly poignant.
