I thought this was going to be one of those faux memoir type stories and in a sense it is. The fantastical elements took me by surprise. I think there's some metaphors that went right over my head. I felt like it was well written even though I'm mostly confused about it

WOW! What a book!

The world is absolutely fantastic. And sometimes horrifying but in a way that fits. The different bits of magic fit together so well.

The plot is amazing, focusing on the ascent of movie star Luli Wei as she faces numerous obstacles - racism, homophobia, truly evil bosses (who can and will absolutely have inconvenient people removed).

I loved every moment of it.
