Could have done without the butlerian Jihad subplot and the love triangle. But the mech fights did NOT disappoint.

I bought the book and tried to read it a couple times, but couldn’t get into it so I got the audiobook instead. It was pretty good a little hard to understand but a good story. I don’t plan to read the second book and will probably give away my original hardback.

This book sucked me in and didn’t let me back out. I didn’t go into this with high hopes because reviews haven’t been the greatest. I’m glad I forged ahead. I always forget how much I enjoy sci-fi. This book was a whole bunch of jousting in space. Think the earth doesn’t exist anymore due to a massive war and there are civilizations of humans in space. They have these competitions of riders essentially jousting each other under g-force conditions. There’s a whole lot of conflict and underlying mystery to add to it all. Things aren’t ever what they seem, right? Is this force they defeated in the war truly gone? I loved everything about this. I’m ready for the sequel now!

Wow.

yes, there is some wonkey and almost non-sensical science you need to just accept to get into this world and what is going on. but that's fine, its F I C T I O N hello???????????????????????
A lot of reviews are comparing it to Fourth Wing or Hunger Games? have y'all ever like, read those books? because not even close....Red Rising-ish (Lower class-mid class-nobles revolution plot)...Pacific Rim (neural handshake mechs)...Knight's Tale (a Bastard peasant entering a noble's competition...Mech Jousting)...Ender's Game? other more spoiler-y reasons I'm not gonna say......there is A LOT going on. It was patchy at times, but overall I think the sequel is going to knock it out of the park, Ms. Wolf just needs to lock down details a little more, and Red Tower needs BETTER EDITING PROCESSES (this is not a Heavenbreaker issue, this is an issue with almost EVERY TITLE red tower put out since Fourth Wing)
