I really enjoyed this book. I liked the characters, especially sweet Cole. I wish there was a little more detail about the trauma that plagued the main character, but perhaps that's in book 2....

This was a sad story of the main character’s tragic upbringing. This was not a true story but it could happen to anyone in real life. The fact that the father let someone destroy his daughter’s life like that to make her go completely silent (mute) for many many years is baffling to me.
As a mother now, my mama heart aches for the main character. I would be distraught to say the least.

This book had a great story line, but the writing style disappointed me. It seemed mediocre and I felt that if someone different wrote the book that this book would have been five stars. But, I would still recommend reading Silence for the main plot.

Okay, so there were editing issues here and there. If a story is good, I can over look that. Guess, what? This book was good! I wonder if some of the editing issues are more or less people not understanding that this is not American English? So yes, some words sound funny, but they are indeed the correct words to use.
Moving on. Yes, the relationship between the two main characters seems obsessive. But, you should be able to view it through the eyes of the characters, especially Oakley. Cole has been her best friend since she was born, he has been her rock, and she clings to him to get through each day. Of course she doubts herself, her self esteem is shot. She's been through a horrible situation and constantly wonders why he would want her because she's "dirty."
I'm glad the story didn't focus on the surroundings. I don't need to know what her high school looks like or other details that do not really pertain to the main story, which is all about Cole and Oakley. Yes, there is a lot of them just laying around, hugging, and hanging out. This story is about the emotions and Oakley conveying thoughts and feelings without speaking. I feel that if the Author hadn't focused strictly on this, the point of the story would have been lost.
I am starting book two (very eagerly I might add) and hope to see some more growth now that Oakley's secrets are out. I started reading this book last night and read for a bit and then finished it first thing when I woke up.
This is a tough story, however, the talking about the abuse is handled with care and does not go into great detail. Any romantic scenes in the book are also not in depth. There is some mild use of language (F word 3 times I think.) but other than that, I would let my teenage sister read it.

Must read for psychological thriller fans. Author portrayed the struggles and Traumatic experiences Oakley endures during her captivity. In this book, it's evident that Oakley is haunted by her past and struggles with nightmares and trsut issues. It clearly shows how her abduction have an long lasting impact on her. The writing style is so good that it keeps me hooked right from the very start.

I started this last night thinking is read it, only to realise I'd read HALF of it, on my iphone. So I quickly slipped the parts I remembered and I'm happy I read it. I want to read the second because I feel the first kind of just threw it all in at the end. But it broke my heart and made me feel so that's why I went up a star

This book tells the tale of an adolescent woman dealing with trauma and looses her voice because of it. The mystery of what could possible cause her silence keeps you turning the pages without wanting to put the book down.
Graphic: Adult/minor relationship, Child abuse, Chronic illness, Emotional abuse, Gaslighting, Pedophilia, and Rape
