This was a delight! Katie O'Neill has a special skill for creating the CUTEST graphic novels. Definitely recommend if you want a quick, sweet little fantasy read.

Probably more of a 3.5 than a 3 star but we'll round down this time.
If you're looking for a cute and short story about how we should protect our ocean, then I think this is it!! In my opinion, this book is definitely for children as it touches on hard-hitting topics, but doesn't quite reach the point where it hits you, you know?
This book talks about the loss of a parent, grief, and how to deal with the effects of a big storm on a community. I really liked what it had to say about everything and it was nuanced in how it discussed grief and how different people deal with it. Especially when someone is dealing with grief and forgets that those around them are grieving as well.
The art style was perfect as always. I would literally read anything that Katie O'Neill publishes and that's a promise. The art style is so cute and expressive that it lends itself perfectly for a children's picture book or a graphic novel.
I liked the main plot of the story as well, and Katie O'Neill did something clever by giving the ocean not only a voice but by making the ocean part of a more magical place than it already is. It made you feel more about the ways that the ocean is affected by climate change and by humans. I also like the creatures and magical mermaid person(???) that was included in the story. Super lovely and super cute.
All in all, if you have a free 10-20 minutes, pick up this book and give it a read!! It's very cute and very worth it if you are even the slightest bit interested. Happy Reading everyone!!

Another gorgeous book!
I love O'Neill's style so much, and the story was amazing as well. A beautifully interwoven story about grief and ocean preservation, with a touch of magic.

Aquicorn Cove is a short but poignant graphic novel from talented artist Katie O'Neill. Lana and her father return to the village where her mother grew up to help with storm recovery efforts. It is there that Lana learns about how people and the environment impact each other. The plot and the advocacy for environmental protection are both outlined in a straightforward manner, which makes it easy for younger readers to get the message. Coupled with the charming graphics, Aquicorn Cove is definitely something that readers looking for a charming and touching story will enjoy.

An adorable and meaningful children’s graphic novel that teaches the importance of empathy and taking care of our oceans.
