This was a super cute graphic novel about grief, family, and taking care of your environment. The art work is beautiful. The storyline even got me teary eyed a few times.

I've been in a slight reading slump lately, and in the past, I've found that reading something quick and easy is a great way to help spark my joy of reading again. So, I browsed through my library's Libby catalog for something available, and this was the first thing that caught my eye.

I've read (and loved) most of Kay O'Neill's graphic novels but had never heard of this middle-grade release. It's about a young girl, Lana, who returns to her seaside hometown to help her auntie make repairs after a big storm. Lana is grieving a loss, but soon meets fascinating creatures who help guide her toward healing her heart and the seaside town she formerly called home.

It's a sweet story with O'Neill's trademark cozy, heartfelt vibes and beautiful artwork. It has a great message about conservation.

This is gentle and lovely, and I'm so glad I picked it up!

emotional hopeful inspiring sad

now it is the time for us to be guardians of the sea, in return for the life it has given our planet.

such an important read for 8-12 year olds!! o’neill teaches sustainability and living in harmony with others and our planet so, so well. topics of mutual aid, grief, and empathy are incorporated beautifully.

the art and lore are both stunning. I also loved the educational content at the end, as well as the call for action. love!
