Another great story in this series. I enjoyed the character development and the action scenes as well as the intrigue.

I think this was a great second book of the series. It really had its own Two Towers vibe, which made me very happy. Everything that is revealed throughout the pages just makes me so excited to see what happens next! And Dorian…oh how I love Dorian!

The plot twist at the end was pretty predicable, but I did

feel horrible about Nehemia's death. I don't really like that the only POC in the book is killed as character development, however. And if Maas had killed off Fleetfoot as well, I WOULD HAVE committed felonies.

However, this still just feels like every basic fantasy series from the time period and I don't super understand why this series is regarded as the best of Maas' work.

This second book is much better, much more interesting and engaging than the first one. I love these characters, I really want them to survive all of this and I want a happy ending for them. I hope I'll get that!

I wanted to give it 5 stars but all this lack of communication was driving me crazy. If the three of them sat down and talked, everything would be easier for everyone.

I'm very excited to keep reading!

This is my least favorite book of the series, but an important one for character and world development. It forces the three main characters to examine where they stand and what they believe before faced with the inevitable war to come. Celaena's with Chaol and Dorian is tested and changes, and SJM does a wonderful job of portraying female rage and a young woman reluctantly stepping into her destiny.
