In a word: Yes. Yes to everything about this book. Yes to the characters, to the premise, to the world, to the story. Delirium just blew me away.

The best part about this book is that while it is a “Love story”, per say, it is not just a love story, at least not a romantic one. It’s Lena’s romantic interest that finally pushes her to see that she wants love, but throughout the book we see what happens when love is taken away, not just in romantic relationships but in friendships and families as well.

The writing is beautiful, but I also really loved this book because it’s written in a way that assumes some intelligence from the reader. Aspects such as the family relationships aren’t completely spelled out, but they are insinuated. I love world-building, and it’s here, but in bits and pieces through out the book, which in my opinion, contributes to a much stronger book by the last page.

I really enjoyed this book. I found the plot points and topics to be unique. It was a topic I hadn't read about before and found it a satisfying read. I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

It is very different to think of "Love" aka "Delirium Nervosa" as a disease that needs curing.

4.5 Read it in 1 day. Really really good.

Let me start out by saying I normally don't read romance books. They're frequently unrealistic, stupid, and unbelievably gushy. I'm more into the action-ya stuff. That being said, I have a scale of rating for romance books. The best being equal to, over, or slightly under The Fault in Our Stars and the worst being at or under Blue is for Nightmares (that book is a scourge upon humanity. I recommend setting it on fire. Maybe drop a a couple thousand bombs on it, just to make sure) This book was kind of in the middle.

I sorta liked this book. I normally hate romance books (unless it's John Green) and it was pretty much the same for this book. I literally just finished reading it, and the only reaction I have is 'meh'. It wasn't great; it wasn't horrible.

From the beginning of this story, it seemed almost exactly like Uglies by Scott Westerfeld. Mousy girl wants the procedure to 'cure' her and then wam bam meets hot mysterious outcast dude who changes her mind and then WAM 'I'll do anything for you' It's extremely cliche.

The characters were kind of flat and boring. Alex was the typical 'mysterious guy with tragic backstory' and Lena was the typical 'mousy not beautiful shy girl who does everything for the mysterious guy' and Hana was kind of just a background filler character. She was just kind of -there-.

The plot was kind of really boring. A society that believes that love is a disease and that all should be cured of it. REALLY?! I mean I'm sorry, but that is just unrealistic and every time I mention it to someone their reactions are all exactly the same: 'what the rocky road are you talking about?' and that is my reaction through this entire story.

It's one of those summer beach reads, I guess. Not really memorable, but at least it's not Blue is for Nightmares bad. Will I read the sequel? Hmm. Maybe someday. Or never. The world may never know.

A little hard to get into and seemed a bit wordy but I'm glad I stuck with it because it was a great, thought provoking story.

Spoilers:

This is the first book that made me cry.
I read the ending over and over, because I just couldn't believe what I just read!
I knew though that Alex can't be dead. He has to pop in any at minute in the next book.
Ugh! Man it was just so sad! I wish he made it over! I wish they got safely away and took on the wilds together!

Moving story, really captures the feelings of young adults getting ready for adulthood. Wonderful pacing, great dialogue.

I really really liked this book. The world has a semi-post apocalyptic feel, but not so much that the story gets lost in it. The worlds Lauren Oliver has created are fascinating and I wanted to explore them. Reading as Lena's world was transformed was a treat. Her journey was never forced. The story flowed beautifully.
