‘How could I ever be her friend when I want to be her everything?’

“Honey, I’d never seen a man look at a woman the way Fisher looks at you. I may be old, but I ain’t blind.”

“How does he look at me?”

“Like you’re his whole world and he’d rather die than not exist in yours.”

🚩
FMC’s ex (MMC’s son) gets in a physical altercation with her, then calls her a whore because she says she doesn’t want to date him — they’ve been broken up for two years and are supposedly friends. FMC’s mother invites the ex to family dinner — without FMC’s knowledge — and everyone is made to forgive him when he says “I shouldn’t have acted that way”. It felt uncomfortable that verbal and physical abuse were forgiven with a quick ‘soz’.

• It’s a trope where that can leave the entire book feeling pointless
if, when the ex finds out, they don’t even care. All the heartache in this book was pointless. And they were worried about the ex after he showed very clearly that he doesn’t care for either MC’s feelings. Weird.

I really enjoyed reading this book. Fisher and Noah make a great couple they have good chemistry and are so supportive of each other. Fisher is giving the best cowboy daddy energy- hot, protective, and sweet. I loved the forbidden aspect of this book, ex-boyfriend’s dad is always a fun one! Fisher and Noah will have you rooting for them individually and as a couple. Fisher especially has overcome a lot and his vulnerability will have you emotional. I’d say this is Tempt by Melanie Harlow meets Elsie Silver. I’m excited to continue on with the series!

Easily one of my top 12 books of 2023! If I could rate this book infinity stars, I would!

Noah's been friends with her ex-boyfriend since they broke up a couple years ago. But when she goes to a rodeo and has a HOTTT one night stand with a sexy older man, she has no idea how their paths are about to cross again. Turns out, he's her ex-boyfriend's dad who had been divorced from her ex's mom for awhile & hadn't been in town in a decade. Not to mention, he's finally back in town to make amends with his son & is about to start working for Noah's family's ranch as their new farrier. But what happens when they can't keep their hands & eyes to themselves when they see each other every single day?!

There are parts of this book that hit way too close to home for me, specifically with Fisher and his suicide attempt. So please go into this book knowing that it will cover some very serious / hard to read topics. BUT it is still such a beautiful book of healing from trauma & grief while reconciling with the past & making amends. And let's just say that Daddy Fisher is HOTTTT. He might be 20 years older than Noah but he's got a dirty mouth & the body to bring that talking to actions. The way he fell so hard & fast for Noah just had me giggling & kicking my feet every time he said the CUTEST things to her. I know I've already said it, but this is one of my favorite books of the year!

And the side characters?! Just you wait. The rest of the series is going to be just as incredible as this one, if not better!

Content warnings:
- The prologue has an on page suicide attempt, so skip it if that could be triggering for you. There's an author's note right before the prologue that will also tell you this.
- Traumatic loss of a child
- Detailed descriptions of grief

Features:
- former bull rider turned farrier x horse trainer
- ex-boyfriend's dad
- HOT one night stand to forever
- healing after trauma
- a little mystery / who did it subplot
- Taylor Swift coded / references
