What oh what did I just read? This has been some clever mind trickery, where I basically didn't quite know what was happening but felt that I had some facts established. But no, those facts weren't facts, it was a spooky mist of deception.

Dare brings Calla to their shared family estate in England to heal and recover from the truth of her losses. The family estate however is not a place of peace and restoration. Her grandmother is aloof and cold, the housekeeper is plain odd and Dare is not himself. Calla feels watched, unsettled and increasingly confused (I'm with you, Calla!).

I thoroughly enjoyed being in the dark in this book because reading in the moment was just so interesting. It is a fast pace and I was definitely hooked. This book had the mother of all endings so once again I'm grateful to be able to run straight into Initium.

Reviewed for Jo&IsaLoveBooks Blog.

I really enjoyed the first book but with the second one I felt like nothing was going on until the last chapters, and I didn't like the plot twist either... I hope the last one gets better somehow.

Ok...hum...

For people who are currently reading this book or are just going to... Courtney Cole is going to trick you !!!
Because when Calla will think she's lost her mind, you'll think you gone
crazy
crazy
crazy
too.
And for people that have no idea what's this book about, I'm not sure what I'm saying will convince you to read it.
But look :
It's FIVE STARS !
Five stars that will drive you insane and directly into the rabbitrabbitrabbit hole, but Five solid, good, fantastic stars !!!

It's so well written !
This all book, it's not a story, with scenes and characters to follow through each chapters, it's a long and infinite prose, a line of the thoughts, of the dreams, of the fears of Calla.
You can't start it for a moment and think you'll stop, put your bookmark and take it later.
You can't.
You have to sit, and read it through without anything from the first page to the last, because you'll want, and you'll need to follow Calla rope of thoughts, and you'll figure that's a rope really complicated, really hard to grasp, but you'll don't let it go, because Courtney Cole'll make sure that you'll well trap with Calla.

When i started to read this book, I thought :
"I don't think it's necessary, the first one was so great, she could have stop here. I don't need anything else, all is explained and in place for me"...
Bwaha ! I laugh at my self now.
'Cause, O, I'm naïve !
'Cause you so need this book, and the next. You don't know anything, and nothing is in place.
This trilogy, It's a
big,
big,
big
messed up thing, that you really cannot understand, but at the end, I think we will. I think Courtney Cole is doing something really complicated here, so well knitted, like a puzzle.

O and the emotions ! They're so real, so crushing sometimes, because sometimes you see that something it coming, and it's darkdarkdark, to dark maybe, because, already, the first book was overwhelming by itself.
But now with this second book, you've got all the hopes and emotions from the first one that are wrirling in your chest and they are joined with more feelings, with more fears, with more hope, with more love, with more confusion...
And all along, when I though I knew, I never known!
I wanted to say "I know what's going oooon", but at the end, it all crumbled on your head, and you don't see it comming, never. Because, like Calla, you can't tell the truth from the dream from the lie from the secret.
At the end, you don't have answers, you just have moreandmoreandmore questions.

I don't know how I am going to wait 'til the last book is published...
My mind thinks I need to readandreadandread again Nocte and Verum until Lux is out, to find answers, to find things that maybe I didn't understand the first time... But I just think that'll be just torture, and I hope that all the answers'll come with Lux, because I need them,
we need them,
I need my sanity,
and my sleep!

"The past is a prison, and you 'll never break free."

Plot: 2/5 –I can tell you that the “secrets” get even more complex in this book. I like a good mind-f*ck kind of book, I do. But this is pure mind-blowing-f*ckery.
Characters: 3/5 –Turns out there’s a reason why they are so haunted…
The Feels: 1/5 –I seriously cannot wrap my head around this story anymore.
Theme: ???
Flow: 2/5
Backdrop (World Building): 4/5
Book Cover: 4/5
Sex Factor: yes, non-explicit
Ending: 2/5 –The very end is like above and beyond confusing. Cliffhanger: AgainAgainAgain…

Will I continue the series? No, I will not. I tried to find a review with spoiler tag, I couldn’t find any. I’ve now decided, and this is my theory, that it’s because, nobody can explain what happened

This book frustrated me with its total-all-out confusion thing it had going on…Ultimately, it went too far with it. Within the first 10% of the book things were just so confusing, I really couldn't appreciate it. Although, I’m not sure what could have happened differently for me to ultimately enjoy it.

HOLY SHIT

This book was SO DAMN MADDENING. It was frustrating. I think I like being tortured, because this fucking book was a torture to me. I honestly didn't like 70% of it, because the protagonist's decisions were so stupid so many times. And there were a LOT of nonsense situations throughout the book. And in this book, Dare is the one with a big secret, and AGAIN, the whole book you keep guessing what the fuck is all about.

I was like this the entire book:

I was thinking of DNF this book, but the struggle to know was so fucking real. And then... AND THEN... the plot twist KILL ME. I'm dead guys, I swear. I did NOT expect that.

What.
Why.
How.
WHAT...

I don't know who's alive, who's dead. What's real and what isn't. I think that, as Calla, I'm going crazy. I don't understand what is happening.

-I'm rating this book 3 stars, because, as I said before, a huge part of the book was so bad, it deserved 1 star. But the ending deserves all the 5-stars in the world, so rounded up is 3. -

“Run, little mouse. The hawk is coming, and you’re going to get eaten.”

Man !, this really know how to play with your mind.

Seriously guys, I'm a mess right now

It was so good !! I CAN'T BELIEVE IT!

Again I can say that this reading is crazy, they had said to me that was like Mara Dyer style (trilogy which I love), but I do not seem to be as well, in fact I think that this book is a thousand times crazier than anyone I have read before .

I think this trilogy deserves many more readers!. It's so original, without arguing it has a very intelligent writing, where you never imagine what will happen next , I mean, NEVER!

The incorporation of the new characters, has been brilliant since they have contributed much to the plot! And I've loved one more time the landscapes where history elapses, which is in England, with the rainy and cold weather makes it even more creepy at times

“Dear Reader, Dante Alighieri said, in his Inferno: "Do not be afraid; our fate cannot be taken from us; it is a gift.” Dante lied. Our fate must be worked for. It must be paid for. With tears. With blood. With everything we have. And it is not until the end, the very end, that we will know if it was worth it.”

Almost made me a heart attack, to that end so unexpected !!

Well , Courtney Cole has made me a fann and now , I want to buy all her books lol , in fact I think it's a brilliant writer, really, not many have the talent to keep you engaged with the story without getting bored for a second, leaving you on the edge of seat almost the entire book#Applause

So , I can be here and talk about how wonderful it was this book for me, but I can not without spoilers!, Again highly I recommend this trilogy especially for lovers of mystery, romance and unexpected endings ! :)
