Despite all the juicy drama and plot threads explored here (the identity of the False Gouchen, the entire Rufeng Sect arc, and the hard-earned communication between Mo Ran and Chu Wanning), this volume didn't quite strike the same chord as those before it. That doesn't mean I wasn't kicking my feet and squealing every other chapter though! I especially loved seeing more of the adult Mo Ran as he's questioning his rebirth and having to face how oblivious and hurtful his prior actions were to Chu Wanning. And Chu Wanning...his fear of heights...him being content to love Mo Ran in silence and never expecting reciprocation...his little teasing moments with Mo Ran...it's all SO GOOD. They still have a long way to go even with their feelings (somewhat) out in the open, and I can't wait to see them navigate the change in their relationship as the overall story progresses.

On a side note, I'd love to see more of Xue Meng and Shi Mei in the next volume!

Chu Wanning's reaction to the confession was sooooo cuteeeeeee :) I was screamingggg and giggilinggggggg meanwhile .

Even though this volume wasn’t super centered around Mo Ran and Chu Wanning, I really enjoyed it. As always, Meatbun’s world building is robust, and not just there for the sake of the couple. I’m very interested to see how this plays out. The obvious answer for the villain feels just that—too obvious. Hopefully the twist works well!

I can’t wait to see how the next volume goes, especially now that they’ve both confessed their feelings for each other!!
