Moje první knížka, která má tak trochu něco společné s detektivkou. Anita je skvělá holka, nenechá si naprosto do ničeho kecat a umí být děsně tvrdá. Jean-Claude je rozkošný.

I started this book fully expecting it to have a heavy dose of romance thrown in so I'm disappointed now that I'm done with it.

Anita Blake is an animator, she can raise the dead to become zombies or lead them to rest. On the side, she is also known as The Executioner because she kills wanted vampires. There's a series of vampire murders so she was brought in by the thousand-year-old mistress of the vampires to find out the murderer (I can't remember why they couldn't do it on their own).

The writing is good and my heart broke for Phillip but I was not satisfied at all with the story. I fully expected her to be an expert and capable when it comes to dealing with the supernaturals but I feel like she was not able to do that.

Not sure if I'm going to read the 2nd book.

Surprisingly violent, considering it claims to be a romance. I just couldn't get past the darkness and ugly to enjoy the story. I did finish, but won't be reading another.

This a "hard-boiled" noir detective novel with a female sleuth (but she's more). It was also one of the BEST (and SCARIEST) vampire stories that I've ever read.

The dialog was classic: "There is nothing like waking up the morning after a good beating." Or "This is too easy." "Don't worry. Something will go wrong soon." The heroine is one tough lady who dishes it out as much as she takes it.

She lives in a world where vampires (and lycanthropes, ghouls, and other monsters) are part of the landscape. Not just there, but integrated into society. These creatures are faster and stronger than humans, with no hint of remorse or ethics.

It's beyond _Dracula_ by Bram Stoker. It makes _Twilight_ look like a "Young Adult" novel (oh, wait).
