"Maybe you didn’t have to get over your fears completely to conquer them. Maybe if you just faces them in general that counted."
another 5 star MZ read????
i?? can’t think of any reason to NOT give this a 5 star rating?? two five stars in a row for the same author??? Who Am I???
this book is about new beginnings, and hope, and grief, and pushing through the hurt and still smiling about it.
with a fmc so emotional and teary that i have no idea how i didn’t dislike her (let alone adored her), but with an older, stoic, mmc and who is a single dad!! there was just no wayyy i wasn’t going to love this book.
but that isn’t all! this also featired small town living, a distinct season change narrative awareness, found families, thoughtful insights about grief and new beginnings. just!! gosh. this felt like a warm hug.
also, i think maybe most male romantic characters by Mariana Zapata are grumps? but if that’s the case that just means i’m gonna want to read all of them. onwards to the next!
I am truly a hopeless romantic and I am a sucker for cutesy, slow burns. This book hit all the right vibes. It had a beautiful building of friendships, a great story of starting over and a love that probably wouldn't have happened under normal circumstances but what is meant to be cannot be helped. I loved the story of Aurora's life and her getting back on her feet and starting a new, her friendship with Ames and the relationship with Ames and his dad.
This was just simply adorable. I laughed and cried.
The things I wasn't a big fan of in this book and reasons why it will not be a 5 star is I really did not like the reasoning or why the "Buddy" nickname was used, I will not say more as to not give spoilers. The 2nd thing I didn't like was the I guess supposed plot twist or the moment when something from the past comes up and threatens to upset the growing relationship then they "kiss and make up" it was a bit lame for me however I loved and cried at the "kiss and make up" part. I put that in quotes since its not a literal kiss and make up part but it did make me emotional, I cried and I loved it.
Overall I loved it and it's something I would recommend for my slow burn romance reader friends. It has some spice but nothing that gives you the wow factor but it's okay because the story in itself will forever live rent free in my heart. I believe this is the first book I've read by Mariana Zapata and I was not disappointed.
favorite quotes:
" just because I don't know what your mouth taste like yet, doesn't mean I haven't thought about it, doesn't mean I'm not going to" ... why did my heart just melt
