Fabuloso. Wow.

could not for the life of me get into this after rhodes called aurora buddy the elf (several times???)

aurora also had twice as much progression with amos until 75% of the way through the book, which honestly checks out because she was written like a teenager this is NOT a 33 years old woman

Only Marianna Zapata can make me love slow burn !
That book means a lot to me, I've read it a couple of times already. I really love everything in this book :  the setting, the characters, their relationship.

I did not want to put this down while reading it but, now that I’m done, I’m not sure it’ll linger in terms of impact. I enjoyed these characters and their journeys, and would definitely recommend for someone who wants a slow burn story about a woman learning how to live for herself again and a man who doesn’t trust easily. It just didn’t have that oomph that I got from something like From Lukov with Love.

I was a little annoyed sometimes by the choices Aurora would make but it’s fiction and shes hurting. We all make dumb decisions sometimes. She acts very young with a lot of things though and that felt weird. She’s 33, right? She comes across as a 23 year old a lot of the time.

What I dislike the most though is this new cartoon cover. It makes it look like this book is Mariana Zapata’s Birthday Girl (aka extreme age gap for those unfamiliar. Like 20 and 50) when, in reality, they’re less than ten years apart.

Also, this is a Mariana zapata book. So I marked it as open door sexual content but there’s only one, maybe two, actual sex scenes in this book. Such is the slow burn way. We’re here for the yearning not the smashing.

Also also, what the heck was that Buddy thing? No thank you lol. No thank you at all.

Mariana Zapata is a literary queen of slowburn romance. There, I said it.

Aurora and Rhodes grew on me with every passing page. I loved the characters, even the side ones. I love how Rhodes communicates (verbally and physically), and I have to say his love language is off the charts. I absolutely need the acts of service, so every single one of those scenes made me emotional right along with Aurora.

There's this one line that I just need to applaud our darling author: "His gaze tried to eat me up, but I wasn't edible anymore." I snorted and then I was just nodding along in agreement. I mean, honestly, I never would have thought to spin the saying in that way. It was well-played!

All in all, I think I most loved how supportive and loving these characters were. There were pages filled with love in all of its forms: from her using her mother's notebooks to find hikes to try, to Rhodes helping his loved ones out however he could, to Amos and his mom and two dads, and even to Yuki and her desire to be there for Aurora despite being famous. I loved the support given during Aurora's grief, and the men's reactions when Aurora went to Clara's.

Every little scene was tender, pure, or hopeful.
