I'll be honest. This book was not what I expected at all from the summary but I liked it anyway. The premise as listed above followed Maggie being hired to be a nanny to Tomasso's two children. Unbeknownst to her, he was the same man she fell in love with years ago. Also Tomasso has arranged her to be his children's nanny as a test to see if she would make a good wife. As secrets and feelings come to the forefront, Maggie has to decide whether she can trust Tomasso or not.
I thought this was going to be a young employee and her rich employer. It was but at the same time it wasn't. They had a history and the not ending up in his bed was from six years before the book started. It wasn't that I was disappointed per se but it just wasn't what I was expecting. I didn't realize it was going to be a nanny story either which I tend to have issues with over their being unrealistic. Other than that it was a decent book.
Maggie and Tomasso were interesting as characters although odd in the short book. Tomasso loved his children but he was a bit flat. He had no goals, interests, or much of anything outside of loving Maggie and a failed marriage. It was disappointing but I've found a lot of HPs don't fully develop the hero.
I loved the scenes with Tomasso's family. They fought, argued, accepted, played and just had fun with it even though they were royals. I loved Therese, Tomasso's sister-in-law and Maggie's friend, so much that I requested her book after finishing this one.
It's sad when the most interesting character is a secondary character but Maggie and Tomasso had so little conflict. They fought a little but it was easy to see they'd end up together. It was a fun ride but it wasn't the best I've read. I couldn't help but wish for a little bit more from Tomasso and Maggie. I just wanted more...spark.
It's a fun read though and I would recommend it if you are reading through the Royal Brides series.

I like the premise, I didn't like the I'll roll over for you h. We won't even discuss the H, who wasn't above using his kids by setting up expectations. Good thing she was such a pushover.
She was clearly a convenient choice rather than one out of passionate love but given her background I guess you can't blame her for jumping at a chance for a family. And don't kid me about what was clearly a makeover, being masqueraded as not a makeover.

I don’t know what I was expecting, but reading a romanticised rape scene wasn’t really it. The lines of consent were just not there and the justification for what happened just irked me. The only redeeming part of this book was the cute kids. I would not recommend this one.

Graphic: Rape, Sexual assault, Gaslighting
Moderate: Misogyny
The hero in this book is a serious asshat. But the heroine doesn't let him get away with his slut-shaming bullshit, so there was that. He continued to be a pretty terrible person, though.

this one goes into my " so bad it made my teeth hurt" pile. the hero is a pompous ass. he is selfish, arrogant and completely insensitive to others. he does not seem to possess even one redeeming quality. the heroine is a door mat and even the hero seems to think so. she spends all her time yakking about how it's the 21st century but behaves like it's the 14th century. she allows the hero to step all over her and every time she wants to protest he kisses her and she goes brain dead. what a disgusting message that sends. the plot is horrible and sets women back 500 years - the main message being "better to have an ugly yet capable wife than a gorgeous bitch. and yes, all beautiful women are bitches and all ugly women should forever be grateful to have been married in the first place." gag and double gag.
