It is a charming book, but the tone of it really annoyed me. Still, a cute memoir about a Japanese elementary school with an awesome headmaster. Sad that there's not really schools like this anymore. Also, it's kind of annoying to write a book about yourself and how charming and precocious you were, but apparently it's really popular in Japan and the author was famous when she wrote it.

Such a sweet, interesting story. This is a non-fiction Japanese book about a young girl who is slightly autistic and the elementary school she attends. It's actually a memoir, and I thought a true love letter to her school and principal. Totto-Chan is a great character - funny, adventurous, inquisitive, caring, and more than a bit mischievous. For being such a simple story, the author really fleshes out the characters and the plot, even though the episodes are so short. I highly recommend it!

Through the eye of a child

This book is the only book that I will recommend for anyone to read and re-read all over again. From time to time, perception towards something changes us. Whenever that happened and I will re-read it again, I find myself understand the child's mind even better.

It is astonishing to realize such unique child education structure exists in Japan back in World War II. It is an impressive system to allow the child to grow without constraining their development and over conditions them.

This book allow you to walk through a journey from the eye of a child. The overview concept of education system and why each child is unique of their own.

Anyone should read this regardless if you're a new parent, an early childhood educator or someone who just enjoy having new perspective.
