It took a little longer to get into this story mostly because I'm not quite sure what to make of Paige. That said, the second half of the novel really picks up the pace and unfolds in a whirlwind of adventure which, of course, ends relatively well but with more than a handful of questions unanswered and a clear indication of what we can we expect from the follow-up.
It was so hard to read this book without comparing the characters to Elena and Clay from the first two books in the Women of the Otherworld series. I felt that Paige wasn't as strong of a character and was a pushover in comparison.
I'm still going to try to rate it without relating Dime Store Magic to Bitten or Stolen but it's so HARD!
I loved reading about the history of the witches in Dime Store Magic; especially when it came to the sorcerers getting involved.
I also loved how the romance in this story didn't dominate the plot. It was a great change to be honest because otherwise, I feel like the story-line would have become too messy and all over the place if that makes sense.
What's great is that if a reader started the Women of the Otherworld series from Dime Store Magic they wouldn't be lost at all, simply because it seems like it could be a separate series competely.
I loved Savannah's character. She was so sassy and naive that Paige had to run around after her like a headless chicken half the time!
I also liked Lucas's character. He was so calm and composed throughout which was great for a little change. You could also see how he would be great for Paige as they're kind of opposites in a way but complement each other.
However, I did find Paige to be a bit irritating; she just did some stupid things at times that didn't have to happen.
The world that Dime Store Magic is set in is flawless. The idea of the rivalry between sorcerers and witches, covens and Lucas's family story were all brilliant.
Above all though, Dime Store Magic was a really fast-paced and exciting all the way through. I couldn't put it down.

Really enjoyed reading this book again! Paige and Lucas a a great couple, loved reading their beginning after Counterfeit Magic and Baby Boom!

Such a great book, loved rereading it, and learning about the levels in the spells, and Paige and Lucas were so cute!
*First read January 1st 2011*
Loved this book, it was nice to have a different narrator, but one that we knew from the previous book :) I loved their romance, it was nice, and I liked the story, it was really good!

OMG! The hero of this book is not a creepy, macho douchecanoe! In fact, he's none of those things, but a slightly nerdy, non-athletic, physically forgettable, awfully adorable LAWYER. Yay for Lucas, who doesn't even enter the story until page 62 XD
Best WotO book so far, and I can't wait to read the next.

I'm giving this to Tribefan.
A great little book, even though I wasn't sure if I'd like the character of Paige, I really did.
Want to read more!

Paige is still entirely annoying at the very begining. This time around I also found Savannah frustrating, but luckily both of them evolve with the series. Admittedly it takes a while longer for Savannah to mature given her age.

Kelley Armstrong's Dime Store Magic is book 3 in the fantastic Women of the Otherworld series. This is the story of Paige Winterborne, the young leader of the American Coven, and my absolute least favorite character from the previous book. In Stolen (book 2 of the series,) Paige loses her mother and gains a ward, a powerful young witch named Savannah. Dime Store Magic continues the story with both the usual struggles of raising a teenage girl, and the unusual issues you face when that emotionally volatile girl is also a witch coming into her real powers.
As I said before, Paige is not really my favorite character. Fortunately, raising Savannah has made her much more sympathetic. Although I'm still not in love with her, I don't dislike her anymore. Paige does the best she can for Savannah - protecting her from her father's Cabal and a nasty custody battle, while trying to instill good values in her. Her beloved Coven has all but abandoned her, believing that Savannah is more trouble than she is worth. Much to their dismay however, Paige will not give up on the girl - it's one of her best qualities as far as I am concerned.
As with the previous two books, Dime Store Magic is a well-written, fun piece of paranormal/fantasy fiction. I was sad not to see more of Elena Michaels in this book, but perhaps her story is over. I'd like to see where Paige and Savannah go in the future, and whether or not their sexy sorcerer lawyer, Lucas Cortez goes with them. I'll definitely be looking for the next book at the library. This is an excellent and complex series that is full of surprises and interesting characters.

I am such a sucker for supernatural, strong, sexy women.
Forgot how much i love Kelley Armstrongs novels. Her stories just suck you in and the tensiona nd thrills are non stop.
All the characters are well drawn and wow did I want to smack savannah in the face!!! jeez she is the most self centred teenager ever. she doesnt seem to have any concept of others feelings and isnt very likable...did wonder why Paige went to all this trouble for her as she gets little in the way of thanks. first i felt she was a little OTT as a stroppy teenage character but looking back i think Kelley portrays an adolsescent girl whose just her mom and has a chip on her shoulder pretty darn well!
Looking forward to Paiges next adventure in Industrial Magic.
