I think this book was trying to depict aging and elder abuse in a raw and eery way, but I found it to be a bit lackluster.

This book was incredibly gripping and unsettling. I could have read it one sitting if I didn’t have plans. Highly recommend for spooky season!

Penny is an older woman who loved to paint. Her long time partner has died and she is living alone in her apartment of 50 years until one day she is taken a long-term living facility in the woods. She is told she and her partner made these plans but she doesn’t remember. That is the beginning of her questioning her own memories and what is real or not.

I loved how fast-paced and immersed I was in the story. I felt her panic viscerally. This book makes you thinking about aging, identity, and the meaning of life in a really unique way.

The hypnosis of this book is subtle, as is it’s terror. Every page fuelled with an urgent undertone, like when you haven’t realized that you’re holding your breath.

I especially adored the way this book was formatted, incredibly easy to read and impossible to put down. Read it in a single sitting.

Very surreal, kinda like a fever dream. Loved the slow-burn, atmospheric horror and the reflective tone
