The butler has some kind of crazy ability to pull off the impossible. I enjoyed the relationship the Butler has with his master. He really seems to care for the kid even though he probably shouldn't. The background characters were annoying and the different episodes were kind of incongruous. It'll be interesting to see if all of the volumes are told in this disparate manner or just the first one. Looking forward to finding out more of the back story between these two characters and their unique arrangement.

I decided to pick this up because the Pink Bunny and her daughter got me watching the first episode on Hulu. I was confused but terribly amused, and decided to take a look at it.

....

I think I'll stick with the animated version. Not that this was bad, but the writing style of Manga is always kind of confusing to me, and I found it really hard to follow. Really enjoyable, this isn't a bad - I keep wanting to say comic - Manga, it's just clearly not going to work for me.

I wanted more to happen in this. Maybe it's because it was the first one? I will say that I did not see the whole "Black" in "Black Butler" coming, if you get me.

Also, must we always go with the stereotypical Italian mobster? SOME ITALIANS ARE NICE LIKE ME.

Huge honking caveat: I love Black Butler with all of my heart and soul – and I love Sebastian and Ciel, the butler and his master, with the heat of a thousand suns. That said, I will try my damndest to provide a fair and critical review of Black Butler’s first volume, released in English by the always quality and timely Yen Press. As someone who has actually read ahead of this volume – enough to know that this series is not a pure comedy manga – I find this volume rather misleading for new and prospective fans.

Despite some hints that Ciel and Sebastian’s relationship isn’t what it seems at first blush, this collection of chapters is a mix of madcap humor and action that makes it seems like said things are the primary focus of the story. Which they are not; this book doesn’t even give any inkling of a plot beyond “Sebastian does awesome things and Ciel is a frowny rich boy”. Still, for an entire volume of “Sebastian does awesome things and Ciel is a frowny rich boy”, it is very entertaining.

Here comes another series I was obsessed with back in high school that I’m finally picking up.
So far so good, beautifully drawn
