This is the sequel to The Marrow Thieves. I don't usually say this about sequels, but it was better than the 1st book. It was a haunting tale that left me in tears at the end. The character development was excellent and the character/story references to the 1st book were seamless. Her efforts at representation in the book were also very well done and never seemed forced or added only for the sake of diversity. Each character brought their own substance to the larger story. I highly recommend both books read together. Dimaline is a fantastic author.

I think this is a compelling enough read but I still don’t understand the science behind it. I appreciate why she wrote it but I don’t think it felt necessary IMO.
Still worth the read though!

I didn’t find the first half as compelling as “The Marrow Thieves” because the group is separated and I missed the group dynamic. The second half really picked up for me though.

Absolutely devastating, but necessary. I am so glad the author decided to revisit the world of The Marrow Thieves.
