Coraline was an experience I wasn't prepared for but loved. The layers of darkness, bravery, and the quest for identity resonated with me deeply. The contrast of Coraline's courage against the Other Mother gave me chills! Coraline is definitely braver than I would have been in her shoes.
What I loved most:
1. The sassy black cat
2. The button eyes (legit creeped me out)
3. The colorful neighbors
Let me tell you that Neil Gaiman is a fantastic storyteller. This should be on your list if you're looking for a delightfully dark fairy tale that lingers for the spooky season. Plus, it's a short read!

Listened on audio. Very engaging, well narrated. Love a book that's got a cat side kick.

Good horror book for a younger audience and was different from the movie so it was nice to see the story told differently

I was surprised that it was actually even better than the movie. The way Coraline gets out of ‘the other world’, the fact that her parents are missing, and the plot in general were things they should’ve added to the movie, in my opinion. But I did miss whyborn so I’ll give the movie that.

A perfect story with excellent story telling... and a surprising tear jerker! Nothing life changing, so not a 5 star book, but you'll be hard pressed think of a worthier book for such an excellent adaptation.
Very fascinating and a good story. Can't bump any Gaiman's writing to a 4 though. If he was dead, then I would say 4. Otherwise, it's going to remain as a crisp 3.75 because, you know, it's Neil Gaiman.
