This is one of my favourite books of all time, hands down. I've read it once before now, and watched the film a couple of times. (book > film- come at me bro) It is a classic example the words not being complex but a complex meaning can be found amongst them. I love how Gaiman has really captured the nature of children in this, like the way that Coraline interacts with the neighbours. Because you are following Coraline (a child), you are never quite sure if what is happening is real or part of a made-up game. Basically, I love this book to death.

I found this book mildly disappointing because I was told it would be an incredibly frightening tale that would cause me to lose sleep, and it wasn't nearly that intense. However, I could see it being scary for a younger audience, which is what I believe it is intended for. Think of it as a fractured fairy tale from the warped imaginative mind of Neil Gaiman. It's a quick read (I read it in less than two hours) and worthwhile for any fans of his or fans of these style stories.

The novel started off slow to emphasize Coraline’s, not Coroline, life in an attempt to juxtapose her extremely to a life she actually wants. It’s interesting to see how though she likes the other world, she prefers her real parents and refuses the affection of the other mother adamantly. Her personality is not one that I relate to well, but she does have her moments to shine. I especially loved her telling of the story of her father and the wasps and how she described what it means to be brave.“When you’re scared but you still do it anyway, that’s brave.” It’s for that reason that she faces what she must in order to bring her life back to normal. A good little book ensnared in a web of wonder and fantasy. I’m intrigued by the mystery and magic that surrounds the corridor between the two worlds and the little pocket dimension inside the well. A fantastic book for a little night scare. I remember when I was little that I was absolutely entranced by the movie and how I begged my parents to let me watch it over and over. After growing up, I’ve learned to appreciate the beauty of the whole affair even more than before. The movie and the book in their own merit hold up to be so much more than the eye can see.
