I love it from beginning to end. I’m glad I’m reading the series per the authors recommendation by both series together. I understood so much of what was happening and yet still had twists! So good.

***EDIT*** to adjust my rating (3.5 really, not 3 or 4) and make a more thorough review.

Holy crap, I had no idea this book was getting so much hate. I am so glad I read it before reading all these other reviews.

Y'all, I hate to break it to you, but JLA is not a good writer. Poppy/Cas are not a well-written couple despite how many entertaining interactions they have, or how adorable their relationship can be at times. I devoured the first two books in like a day and a half, but I don't recommend them to IRL friends for multiple reasons - her writing skill being the primary. Of course we're allowed to enjoy reading them, but I think that some expectations were too high for this one, which is resulting in such a huge crash.

*SPOILER TIME*

SpoilerFULL DISCLOSURE: I DNF'd the last third of the previous book (I read *part* of a summary lol), and I skimmed some of this one. THAT BEING SAID - Kieran and The Joining turning into a threesome have been hinted at for a while now, and the amount of time Poppy/Kieran spent together in the first half of this book does somewhat realistically provide a backdrop for their relationship strengthening. I didn't get any emotional cheating from their interactions, but I am also not nearly as invested as I think others may be. I enjoy Poppy/Casteel together, but I was always open to Kieran "joining" (hehe) in. Is his character being done justice in the relationship department? Nah, not at all. Is he basically third-wheeling the whole time? Yeah, kind of. Does Kieran really have any personality? Nah, not really. He's kind of a generic hot boy who just so happens to be Casteel's bestie. Honestly, if you swapped his personality for Delano's would you even be able to tell a difference?

Anyway, that's my two cents. I do feel bad for those who were/are more invested in this series than I am, and I 100% respect the reactions to this book (even if I don't really understand them myself). I have also gotten fully invested in other books/series only to have them ruined for me. Personally, I'll probably keep reading FBAA, if only because I've invested so much time already into this series. Plus, the Bookish Box special editions are *STUNNING*. I also really enjoyed ASITE and am looking forward to the sequel to that one. But JLA will never be an author I follow just to read her writing.

By far the best book of the series mostly because it lacks the elements that made the first ones almost unbearable to read. For one the repetitiveness is at a minimum. The writing is just overall better. There’s still new discoveries left and right in this book but by this point it’s a part of this series tradition. If you don’t find out 6 new discoveries in a book then you aren’t reading a blood and ash book lol. So I’m at the joining scene now and as much as I was looking forward to it because I love Kieran so much I can’t get over the fact that casteel a man who kills for poppy and loves this women so much is ok with another man kissing her and being very intimate with her. It just doesn’t seem realistic to me even if it is Kieran. But even then I was excited for the joining even if it doesn’t seem all to realistic.

WE STAN KIERAN
Honestly low key want them to be a throuple but considering poppy and casteel are heartmates I doubt that will be a thing. It really doesn’t make sense to add another somewhat romantic partner when we’ve established poppy and casteel being heartmates. Like true heartmates are not gonna be thinking about some other person romanticly. If she introduces them being a throuple further in the series she shoulda really left that heartmate stuff out.

P. S. Also I feel like with all this anticipation about the joining that scene shoulda be so much longer! And I’m pissed.

P. P. S. This isn’t really a review more like a rant about how much I love Kieran.

Took me literal months to finish. I love this world but the plot got repetitive towards the middle. I’ll finish the series though. 🤷🏾‍♀️
