I watched the show years ago and I’ve been intrigued with reading the books, but I’m so happy I got my hands on the audiobook! It was immersive and well done and I could picture every scene in the show perfectly (which is a talented skill, especially since it’s been like 5 years since I watched it). I really enjoyed this and I hope to continue it in the future

This was a re-read, and I enjoyed it just as much as I did the first time I experienced this fantastic work of art. Clever as much as it is entertaining, I find little to no fault in the story, and Helquist’s illustrations are, of course, predictably phenomenal, going so far as to rival the majesty of the words.

This is the first of Lemony Snicket's thirteen lovely gems and I have to say, in spite of having watched the movie starring Jim Carrey, it was still a riveting read.
The Bad Beginning is about three children - Violet, Klaus, and Sunny - and their misfortunes as they live the rest of their lives with their new guardian, Count Olaf. Count Olaf is a nasty old man who takes fancy in drawing eyes and roast beef. He lives in a dirty old house and has a profession in theater arts. The kids hated him but they have no choice but to follow his every word, even though he's making them sleep in just one bed. It is still a mystery to why they are related to this evil man.
Violet's the eldest and she's an awfully smart cookie with a knack for inventing. Klaus is the second child who enjoys his reading as much as his youngest sister Sunny loves gnawing and biting stuff.
The book was very entertaining but, at the same time, depressing due to the apparent unfortunate events and impossible adversities. It had little differences from the movie itself so I can't decide if you should skip the book and watch Jim Carrey be creepy instead or read it. /:)
The story ended with the children's kind and amiable neighbor Justice Strauss telling Violet, Klaus and Sunny that she would be willing to adopt them for good! ...or did it?
