I feel like this could be 2 different books - there is the real world, and then there is the fairy tale world.

I enjoyed this book! I will say that the first half read pretty quickly... but then there are about 100 pages in the middle that were a little slow to get through before the book picks up again. This is why I said it was a medium-paced book.

Amazing book! Slightly off pacing but other wise my favorite Stephen king book. Just wish I had more backstory or give me a book about another character in the book.

This feels like 3 separate books, each interesting for what they are but they never quite feel like a cohesive story. The first part was my favorite and is about the first third of the book. In those 10 chapters our main character is fleshed out and his world is set up for the reader. Then the book shifts to a quest story that is somehow both repetitive and just penciled in. The final section is supposed to be our climax. Unfortunately that is not an epic culmination which collected up all the carefully laid story threads, but a slap dash overview that had many different endings. Even within sections, the pacing was inconsistent.

Charlie, our main character, is initially very well depicted as a teen who had to grew up too fast, but he seems to reverse develop into a thinner picture of himself. Maybe because of that, I never quite bought in to the fairy tale world of this book.

I have not read much King and was unprepared for how “unedited” this book would feel. I will likely give King another try since he has so many books and so many fans, but this one wasn’t for me.

I did however really enjoy reading this in parallel with a group and discussing the book throughout. I also like this Latin phrase, which I hadn’t heard before (mentioned in chapter 24, but not a spoiler): “Time is a shadow in the mind”.

The best part of the book is the beginning it starts off so well the first two hundred pages are amazing .

I wouldnt ever dismiss anything King writes but this isnt the best Stephen king book ever. Ive enjoyed lots of books of late, Billy Summers was pretty good imo.

Some of the book was a chore to me and if it hadnt been a Stephen king book i might not have finished it but I was always hopeful there was gonna be a turning point where it picked back up.

But the beginning of the book the story of a kid, a dog and mr Bowditch promised so much .

All the detail of a King novel with a a bit lighter of a topic.
Characters were very likeable.

First, I want to thank Edelweiss and Simon and Schuster for this eGalley in exchange for an honest review!

I got to read Fairy Tale a while back and found myself not being able to put it down, which, honestly, we all know goes without saying. It’s nice to *finally* talk freely about the excellent and meh elements (to which there are few, but whatever).

I found the opening chapters extremely interesting and enjoyable but now we are in fantasyland, I am losing interest and with over half the book to go…
