I appreciated the story and the word building, particularly the belief system. I wanted to love this book. But there's a painful lack of diversity, especially among the main cast of characters. There's some inconsistency in the details, and the characters lacked so much common sense.

More than anything, the author didn't really need to mention Gabriel's single blue eye in such detail more than a single time. Instead, she went on to describe it once or twice PER PAGE. It's like she doesn't trust her readers to pick up on details so she beats us over the head with them.

So the delivery of the story wasn't my favorite, but it still intrigued me. Fingers crossed that book 2 is a more satisfying read 🤞🏽
