“we got joscelin at home” and it’s gabe smh. that glaringly obvious comparison aside, right off the bat lore is too much of a chosen one, i find it difficult to believe she was capable of magic after suppressing it for 13 years (bit on the nose for a bad luck number no?) and i checked out the minute she was described as essentially too hot to hide her body. a shame since i was recommended this book for the similar vibes of the shepherd king duology and this falls FLAT. my search continues

Ok so I bought this book and its sequel on bookoutlet for like $6 each, and I wanted so bad to like it, despite the deckled edges (yuck). But I got ~40 pages in and I had no interest at all. Lore sounds like she sucks, and the mishmash of info/world/magic/lore dumping was too much. Will take this book and its follow-up to a book swap or something to get 'em off my tbr shelf.
