This was good! Kinda slow at parts and a little dense but I really enjoyed the magic system in this one and I have to admit the dynamic between Gabe, Bastian and lore intrigues me…

On to book 2!

The Foxglove King by Hannah Whitten has me hooked. Lore was born with death magic, and it has loomed over her for her whole life. She lives in the underbelly of Dellaire, working as a poison runner. When a raid gets her taken by warrior monks who decide to use her as a spy, Lore is out of options. As she worms her way into the Sainted King’s court, she finds allies in unexpected places and is betrayed in ways she never imagined. I knew about 300 pages into this book that I needed to read the next one asap. I ordered it, it should come soon, and sorry to my TBR, but I need more of this. There is an undead army, a love triangle (or square, if you include Alie), hot brooding guys, a prophecy, and so much more. I had fun reading this and am invested. The only reason this isn’t a 5 star read for me is that I felt like it started out a little slow. Man, when it picks up though, it takes off. I am excited for more of this series and will be starting the next book as soon as I can. 4.5/5 stars.
