This book had me gripped from the first page until the very last, it pulled me out of my reading slump and had me cheering for all the women in this book. If you love rebellious girls, women, mothers and friends then this book is for you. Written in verse you really get a front row view to the main character's thoughts as they're forming. A brilliant emotional read for anyone that loves when women get to stand up and win.

Absolutely loved this.

Very difficult to read at times and my heart broke for Amber and Ruby.

I won’t forget this one anytime soon. A very powerful story.

“Be a rebel
and rebel.

Be strong
even when you don’t feel it.

Scale mountains
even if you’re afraid of heights.

They say don’t
you say do.

They say can’t
you say can.

Step outside the box.
Colour outside the lines.

Be a rebel
and rebel.”

A verse novel that says so much with a wonderful economy of words and such careful rendering of the characters’ thoughts and feelings. A must read YA book about love and power.

(The version I read was an old advance reading copy that has been sitting on my TBR shelf for over a year). Can’t believe I waited so long!

“I am restless, my feet need to fly.

Amber is trapped - by her father's rules, by his expectations, by her own fears.

Now she's ready to fight - for her mother, for her sister, for herself.

Freedom always comes at a price.”
