Surprised to find Laurel rather an engaging character. Didn't know Lisa Jewell could write one, tbh!!

This served its precise purpose of being the thriller distraction I needed, hence my rating.  Helen Duff was an excellent narrator. It was exactly what I needed.

Pretty shit way to use your main Irish character - legit no reason for her to be Irish, other than being a British author with implicit biases.

Quick easy read, found it to be enjoyable but very predictable. I found Poppy's character to not be very believable but otherwise it was a good book.  Finished it in a day

This is a fairly standard, predictable, but fast paced thriller. I guessed what was going to happen within the first thirty pages, but it was still intriguing and the writing was fast paced enough to keep my interest. Also, my copy had big font. I LOVE a book with big font, I’m talking at least size 12, so I don’t have to squint or hold my book close to my face (yes I do need glasses). Guessing the plot at the very beginning of the book obviously isn’t a good sign, but finding a book that you can easily read even when your brain is filled with a noxious fog, well that’s a gem.

Anyway, I love the whole kidnapped/captive theme. I don’t know why, but it always keeps me interested. So when I saw this one in the charity shop I thought it was a good find. My brain hasn’t been working very well the last few days, and so I thought this would probably be an easy read- it was! I love the character of Ellie, what an absolute angel. None of the other characters are great, but they’re also not particularly unlikeable. After reading this one I’d definitely give some other Lisa Jewell’s a try!
