I found myself having to apologize to those around me as I laughed out loudly while reading about Sarah and Annie's scheme and the supporting characters. Truly, once the scheme is hatched to repackage existing facial creme, adding an illicit ingredient to help with the illusion of youth, and then charging the Real Housewives of La Jolla $2,000 for an ounce, I couldn't put the book down. Filled with humor, vanity, social insecurities, and women with more money than brains, this humorous look at keeping up with the Jones' hit on so many notes of the superficial lives of superficial women.
When Annie came up with the idea to add cocaine to the facial creme, I thought, ingenious! Annie keeps Sarah, her friend and attorney, in the dark about the ingredient. Because somehow she saw something on Law and Order and figures Sarah wouldn't be held accountable. When Annie tested her facial creme out on her unsuspecting husband....ha ha ha! As a story of fiction, it's really quite funny. Although I have to admit that if someone actually did this to me, I don't think I'd see much humor in it. But for a storyline, it provided a great catalyst for the plot.
A quick read and a perfect beach/holiday read.
"How did the nursery rhyme go? 'Old Mother Hubbard went to her cupboard and found she was fresh out of blow.' Something like that". (p.224)

I'm not sure where I picked up this book and I want to be clear it's a short book. That said, I had a great time reading this story. The general premise is two friends face financial crisis's and they devise a scheme to make some money. The story really revolves around that process mixing in some serious situations but as a whole the story is very entertaining. Some of the lines were great. So much so that I was laughing out loud.
So if you want a quick, lite, funny read this is for you

This book was ridiculous. I did laugh out loud a few times but the neatly wrapped in a bow ending totally blew it for me. Nice fluffy read though if you want something quick and easy.
3.5 stars. A perfect palate cleanser for those that, like me, are suffering the fall blues and can't concentrate on any serious fiction at the moment. Annie and Sarah have been best friends for 20 years, and as they find themselves both desperate for money for different reasons, they hatch a scheme to sell high priced face cream to the creme de la creme of La Jolla society.
Really great plot, very slow
Book was great, well written, intriguing plot, but towards the end there were too many characters, and I was just waiting for Annie and Sarah to get caught. Defiantly a good summer read, but I would try to do it in one sitting.
