I absolutely lovedddd this!!!
I’ve never read any of Brandon Sanderson’s other work but this was completely ridiculous and exactly the kind of thing I love :) I’d absolutely read a book from Hoid’s POV if he writes that at some point but in the meantime this is making me mildly tempted to finally delve into the rest of his work 👀

5 stars is not enough. This will probably be in my Top 5 of the year. I love that Brandon Sanderson wrote this for his wife, after they wondered what would have happened in The Princess Bride if Buttercup had set out to find and save Westley herself.

A rat. Found family. Pirates. A dragon. A sorceress. Humor that made me laugh like an idiot. This book truly swept me up in the story and the characters.

This was my first Brandon Sanderson book and I'm so glad it was. It felt like a wonderful introduction to his other works, which I look forward to reading in the future.

If you've been following me for awhile, you know that I have a complicated relationship with Sanderson and his work. I think I can safely say, this is probably my favorite of all of his works (followed by Words of Radiance, Elantris and Warbreaker).

This follows our main protagonist, Tress, who ends up going on a quest to save Charlie, the man she loves, from an evil sorceress in a distant land. This reads like a grown-up fairytale. That's the best way to describe this - think Stardust meets Princess Bride and Good Omens and that's kind of the vibe you have here. Everything about this book was very solid, but particularly the world-building and the characters (and Hoid is the narrator! I adore Hoid at all times).

Definitely one I can see myself reread many times in the future.

Normally I don’t write reviews for Sanderson’s works because I don’t feel I have much to add to the plethora of other commentary you can find wherever you look. I don’t have a lot to add here either but I wanted to rave a bit. This book is so sweet, funny, cozy (while still being adventurous and frightening at times), hopeful, and overall: EXTREMELY cool. As with any Sanderson book, the world building and magic system are incredibly creative, intriguing, and immersive. Tress may be my favorite book heroine of all time. The voice of the book in its entirety was a delight to read: not too schlocky, just enough schlock to be laugh out loud funny. I feel like I could take on the world after reading it. (Right after I nap, because, as may be appropriate for a book borne out of inspiration from The Princess Bride, I read this whole book while sick.)

5 stars forever. I want more books in this world, Brandon! There’s like 9 seas we haven’t seen yet!

Oh and this edition? Unbelievably gorgeous. Howard Lyons’s illustrations were absolutely breathtaking. Reading this edition made the reading experience that much more special.

Brandon Sanderson is already an autobuy author for me, but when I heard he released a novel akin to The Princess Bride (my favorite movie)… I was all over it. Tress of the Emerald Sea delivers all of the charm, wit, and whimsy of The Princess Bride while showing the power of love, friendship, and loyalty.

To say I enjoyed this novel is an understatement—I truly savored it. Thank you, Brandon, for being willing to share this masterpiece with the world.

I loved the slow reveal of Hoid as the sorcerer and Huck as Charlie. The way all the characters came together not because they had to, but because they wanted to, was truly beautiful.

I read the first five chapters available on Brandon Sanderson's website. Will update you when the full book is released and read.

* finished reading today. I felt that Hoid as the narrator nailed the role by interjecting his humor.
This book had Tress struggle and grow into a new person by the end of it.

The Kindle edition had some great artwork throughout, especially the spore sea depictions. The teacups were so cute and

This book opened up a new planet with more questions about the Cosmere inside of a whimsical and fun project such as this.
