love Sanderson, love cozy stand-alone fantasy’s, this one’s like whimsical fairy tale vibes
i however didn’t love the story being told from Hoid’s POV to be so honest, it felt like it was just Brandon Sanderson or a dad monologuing. lots of dad type humour and like “so, you’re probably wondering how I got myself into this situation” cheekiness that did not hit for meeee. and I know it’s not fair but the Kickstarter hype did not help with my expectations, esp after stormlight
I loved the cozy cups, I loved the rat with my whole heart. I don’t particularly like pirate/ship stories so that was already working against me liking the book. I did like the beginning and I love how it wraps up in the end, made me smile :’)
but definitely not my favourite Sanderson at all, it did feel like more of a love letter for his wife and felt experimental which it *is* for him but just lacking. still a solid 3!!!

So, I've never read a Brandon Sanderson book before. I picked this one up because the cover was just so pretty.
I'm sure there are things that I missed having never read a Brandon Sanderson book before, but that didn't stop me from being able to enjoy this one. It was easy to read and fun. I enjoyed it.
