I really enjoyed this book! The likeness to Harry Potter was lovely - not a total rip off like a lot of books that take inspiration from HP, but its own story with similar elements from time to time. Morrigan is such a lovely character, and so are the others.

I'll definitely be carrying on with this series!

DNFed @ 40%
I had heard and read lots of great things about this book and, as a sucker for middle grade books, I really wanted to read it. But, somehow, this book is not for me. It was giving me Harry Potter vs Studios Ghibli vibes, which you'd think would be an awesome combination, but something was not actually doing it for me, it wasn't gripping my attention at all.
It was pleasant enough to read but at the same time not captivating enough

This book for middle-grade readers is at the border of my personal "is it readable as an adult?" range. I enjoyed the world building, but it relied somewhat heavily on the trope of bad things that would have been avoidable if only the main character had been honest with various people in her life. Still, overall, I enjoyed the plot and the character growth. I'll probably read the rest.

I so wanted to enjoy this but I ended up DNFing at page 233. I'm not sure at the moment whether it's me being post covid or that my taste is completely changing.

I might try it again sometime in the future.

*Edit tried it again nearly two months post covid and I really enjoyed it. Gone from 2

Started to read just because they say it was fast read and could get u out from a reading slump. It definitely does! As a 33 yo adult, i enjoyed this book. Definitely light reading
