It had a great plot line and all but there were too many people dying and too much of a sad backstory for our two main characters!! Why did you have to have BOTH of their siblings die?!? And she never fully revealed the entire backstory for each of them, although it would have been a great chance for Hallie and Kase to bond!
Different type of Fantasy
This book is full of world building and character development. At first it was a little hard to keep track of but the adventure is so gripping I had to know what would happen. Slow burn romance and lots of fantasy creatures. Can’t wait to start book two!

I could not get into this book. The world building was too extensive and not clear for me. I also found both main characters to been egotistical and annoying.
Rounded to 4 ⭐️
This didn’t quite live up to my expectations from what I’d heard about it but it was still very interesting!!
I loved the dystopian yet steampunk? feel, the technologies and peoples!!
Hallie kinda annoyed me. And some of the writing was disconnected but it still developed well and I enjoyed it.
Clean!

Not bad
I’ll start by saying this is the first book with a steampunk vibe that I’ve read and I’m not a huge fan of sci-fi, but when it has magic and dragons and giant stone giants I figured it would pull me in enough.
This was a very confusing book. I lost track of the characters and still have no idea what’s going on. The glossary that explained SO much is at the END of the book and I could have used it while reading to keep the characters straight. I had to keep referring to the map to figure out where they were. I almost dnf’d it half way through.
Most of the story takes place as the main characters are traveling, so it was hard to not get bored. I felt like a third of the book could have been cut out and the rest tightened up to make it more believable and help the characters seem more elevated. A few of the character deaths I didn’t even feel were necessary and made them feel like they weren’t even needed in the first place.
True to the fantasy genre, the end of the book speeds up and you get some answers, and it still leaves you wanting to read the second book. It’s not a cliffhanger but it’s not all wrapped up either. The way the characters spoke and some of their actions didn’t seem to fit them the way they had been built in the beginning and the fake swear words were hard to get used to. It is a SLOW burn and I REALLY hope there’s at least a kiss in the second book. The big revelation with the FMC didn’t hit like it should have and felt a bit gimmicky. I don’t know if it’s just because there were Easter eggs I missed or if it just wasn’t strong enough of a delivery, but I found myself not even really being surprised.
CW: abusive family members, family death, gore, fake swearing
I’ll read the second one and see if I change my rating. I read on Kindle.
