3.51 AVERAGE

Meh. The characters are super annoying And not seeing the point in continuing.

Kept the library book wayyyy too long and finally decided it was time to let it go.

Notes to self: DNF. Took 1 1/2 years to get through 2/3 of the book. Don’t like any of the characters. Is this YA? Felt YA, but I like a lot of YA. This is NOTHING like Dune, P&P, Rogue One or whatever other comparisons the author has made for their book.

Let me just start by saying 2 things: 1. I should have DNFed this book ages ago as soon as I realised this was not fot me and 2. so far this is the worst book I read this year.

This was so disappointing because this text had an interesting premise and setting, but the execution of everything was just worse than mediocre. I felt like I was reading a very poorly written Rogue One (a move I didn't even care about) in a Victorian steampunk crossover aesthetics on an alien planet. The characters we are introduced to are supposed to be smart and capable, and yet in order for the plot of this book to work these characters need to be and most importantly act dumb. If for a book to work your characters need to be dumb than make them dumb, don't say they're the best of the best and then trough action reveal that they are in fact idiots. Either this or make a better plot.

This book was everything I didn't know I wanted in a book. This is probably the best setting I have ever read about, it's industrial revolution on another planet in space, which also feels very Indiana Jones vibes. I absolutely adored the adventure that our crew went on, the stakes were high, there was heaps of action and the characters found family was amazing. I love both Hallie and Kase so much, I love how complex and stubborn they both are. I love following the politics of this world also and can't wait to read more. That ending was so different that what I was expecting.

I really wished I absolutely loved this book, but I'm not a Sci-fi girlie. I do recommend it to people who I know like Sci-fi because I do think it's good. It's just not for me
